Locked4Kids is “different by its simplicity,” says Ron Linssen, managing director of Ecobliss Group. The Dutch supplier developed the award-winning child-resistant and reclosable carton for blister packs with machinery partner Romaco Promatic. “It is truly the first child-resistant carton that can run on a regular cartoning machine, like Romaco, at the same speed as normal cartons.”
According to Locked4Kids, the Romaco Promatic P91S intermittent-motion cartoner packages the Locked4Kids blister trays in boxes at speeds of 80 packs a minute. The carton is coated in tear-resistant laminate to prevent kids from ripping it apart to gain access to the contents after they cannot open it any other way.
The package meets the highest rating, F=1, for child resistance set by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. It works by locking a blister tray inside the carton with two hooks. To remove the tray and gain access to the product, both hooks must be pressed simultaneously with a thumb and forefinger. Because the two hooks are offset, with one at the upper left and the other at the lower right, smaller hands are physically not able to press both hooks at once. Yet adults can easily span the width of the box, press both spots and remove the blister tray.
Locked4Kids has been licensed in the U.S. by Atlantic Packaging and will be on display at the upcoming Pharmapack North America show (June 9-11; New York City).
